APSIPA ASC 2020

Message from General Chairs

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to APSIPA ASC 2020. The conference was supposed to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, in the summer. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we had to make it an online virtual event. We were worried if many people would submit papers in this situation. On the contrary, we received 285 regular paper submissions this year, which is the largest in the 12-year history of APSIPA ASC. With the help of 265 reviewers and TC chairs, 204 papers were accepted for publication and presentation. The acceptance rate is 71.6%. We also accepted 21 special sessions, for which 90 papers were submitted, and 83 papers were accepted. As a result, we will have 287 paper presentations in 50 sessions in three days. We arranged the sessions in the afternoon hours in the New Zealand time zone so that Asia Pacific people can attend easily. For online sessions, oral presentations are pre-recorded and will be played, and followed by live Q&A. We hope that the presenters and the audience enjoy the sessions. The best paper awards will be announced in the closing ceremony.

This year, we are pleased to have three plenary keynotes from distinguished scholars: Mari Ostendorf, David Taubman, and Nikola Kasabov. They will give a talk on signal and information processing with a broad scope and deep inspiration. Furthermore, there are four overview sessions, in which 11 speakers are invited to give an overview talk on the state-of-the-art technologies for a specific technical area. Prior to the main conference, we have a tutorial day, in which six tutorials are given on the theory and practice of technologies. A summer school on “Data Driven Based Multimedia Technologies” will be held in the day immediately after the main conference.

Finally, we would like to thank all conference organizing committee members and volunteers, who have worked extremely hard to ensure the success of the conference. Although we do not have face-to-face events and the award banquet, we do wish that you enjoy the technical programs of APSIPA ASC 2020. Look forward to meeting all of you physically at APSIPA ASC 2021 to be held in Tokyo!
